Contrast Therapy

What is Contrast Therapy?

Not just a routine, it's a ritual.

Contrast therapy is the intentional practice of alternating between cold and hot exposure to activate your body’s natural resilience.

At Löyly Sauna Lounge, this ancient practice becomes a modern wellness experience—a fusion of infrared heat, oxygen-infused cold water, and expert-guided breathwork. The result? Elevated mood, reduced inflammation, enhanced recovery, and a clearer, calmer mind.

This is where healing meets transformation. And it happens in community.

The Science of the Shift

Each phase of the cycle is designed to activate a different response in your nervous system. It’s nature’s oldest medicine, delivered with modern precision.

Cold Plunge: Sharpens focus, reduces inflammation, and strengthens resilience

Sauna: Elevates heart rate, relaxes muscles, and releases stored tension

Rest: Allows the body to integrate, recover, and return to equilibrium

This contrast activates circulation, supports detoxification, and trains your body to return to balance—faster, smarter, stronger.

Our Signature Protocol

Each contrast therapy session follows our structured and scientifically-backed protocol, designed for maximum impact in just 45 minutes

01. Arrival + Breath Primer

We begin with grounding breathwork—a moment to set intention, activate parasympathetic calm, and prepare for the journey ahead.

02. Cold Plunge (30 sec–3 min)

Our communal plunge, held at 41–49°F, triggers a cascade of norepinephrine, dopamine, and resilience.

03. Saltwater Hot Plunge (5 min)

A quick snap contrast to relax the body & muscles, and begin warming up your core body temperature to help prepare your body for the infrared heat (it also helps you reach a sweat faster).

04. Infrared Sauna (10–15 min)

Unplug and let the gentle infrared heat support deep detox, softer breath, and nervous system reset. It’s a quiet space to reconnect—with yourself or others.

05. Rinse + Repeat x2

Most guests complete 2–3 full circuits—the more you plunge, the more powerful the shift. Rinse off between rounds to stay fresh, reset your body, and keep things clean.
Finish your session with the cold plunge, allowing your body to warm up naturally.

06. Integration Lounge

Lounge with coffee, tea, and connection.

This protocol was developed under the guidance of Dr. Susanna Søberg’s contrast therapy research and refined by founders Dion and Cindy, who used it as a tool for healing during cancer recovery.
